Description:

This six-hour course will explore "ethical practices” as it applies to the practice of chiropractic. We will look at questions and concerns related to ethics and the lawful practice of chiropractic in a number of areas including: billing practices, documentation, professionalism, time per patient, billings, and up-coding practices, and culture differences in care.

Goals:

1. Inform Doctors about the ethics and penalties associated with filing false documentation regarding services.

2. Explore what “Chiropractic Fraud” means as this terminology relates to code stuffing, over utilization, up coding related to patient/doctor interaction, double billing, etc.

3. Delve into what constitutes ethical of billing practices.

4. Case presentations, which document fraudulent conduct, will be used to present the realities of civil, administrative, criminal penalties related to fraudulent activities.

5. Regulation Z of Consumer Protection Act or Truth in Lending Act (Applies to collection of patient’s medical payments)

6. Identification of the characteristics of ethical behavior.
7. Review the chiropractic oath as it applies to everyday chiropractic care.

Requirements:

Twelve hours of class participation and successful completion of an examination related to the course materials.

Evaluation:

Written test of at least 20 questions constructed with multiple choice, true/false and essay items. Learner must score 75% on examinations to receive certificate of completion.

TWO	Review and analyze the ethics policies of three chiropractic organizations
THREE	Introduction to ethics as it relates to chiropractic practice.
FOUR	Identify how our values can influence others. Understand values and their importance in your career
FIVE	Identification of the characteristics of ethical and unethical behavior.
SIX - Seven	Learn about ethics and practice management. Examination of controversy related to billing procedures, rights of healthcare consumers, and effects of greed among healthcare participants.
Eight	Identify how to be an ethical professional and learn about societies expectations of the professional
Nine	Identify why informed consent can be an ethical issue and identify the significant component to informed consent procedures.
Ten - Eleven	Ethics as they relate to patient care, sexism, racism, and cultural differences.
Twelve	Appropriate procedures and practices related to business practices associated with patient care and insurance companies and managed care.
