Description: |
This new six-hour
course discusses the role of the chiropractor in the legal
system. The focus is on the role of the chiropractor as an expert
witness. The course is designed to assist Doctors of Chiropractic
to understand what constitutes an expert and to assist the doctor
in understanding and preparing for their participation in
depositions and in the courtroom. This course is specifically
designed for the practicing Doctor of Chiropractic by an
experienced litigator and an experienced expert chiropractic
witness.
The
learner’s activities and actual course time is tracked
electronically. The learner is engaged in this distance-based
class by the use of interactive teaching tools. There are six
CEU's available for this course.

In this course the learner will:

Identify why a Doctor of
Chiropractic is considered an expert.

Explore the traits of a good
expert witness.

Develop the skills of providing
effective testimony.

courtroom.

Identify the expectations of an
Independent Examiner.

Identification of eight rules of
providing expert testimony.

Review case studies involving
Doctors of Chiropractic that were involved in providing
expert testimony to explore the nuances of providing an
expert opinion.

Learn about how an expert bills their
time for legal work.

Discussion
of what being an “expert” encompasses. Discuss why chiropractors
are asked to provide expert testimony.

Doctor’s role in the legal process and how the legal process
works.

Legal
issues related to the Independent Medical Examinations.

Describe
the skills and techniques of providing useful expert testimony.

Learn the
techniques of record keeping and record evaluation.
-
The
proceeding of the courtroom and depositions are explored with
the emphasis on the doctor’s role.

Evaluation
Methods: |
The learner’s time spent studying course materials
is tracked electronically. A formal multiple-choice examination
is administered at the termination of the course materials. There
will be at least three questions for every hour of the class. The learner must score 75% to
receive credit for the course. Learners not achieving the pass
rate will be directed to additional study by the instructor and
allowed to re-take the examination. |
