Brian Mulligan and Kevin Wilk Seminars

These proven instructors will be presenting their concepts during this two day seminar. The main focus will be on the extremity joints and other structures, such as the spine and pelvis as they relate to these extremities. Brian Mulligan will review some of his most popular spinal mobilizations and techniques. Kevin Wilk will teach the most up-to-date evaluation, assessment and treatment techniques for rehabilitation of the shoulder, knee, elbow and other structures and their relation to the upper and lower extremities. He will expose participants to the latest surgical procedures performed by some of the nation's top surgeons. Dealing with patients both pre- and post-operatively will be extensively covered as well as the most common reasons leading to the need for surgical procedures and tips on how to avoid them.

Functional Movement Symposium
The Functional Movement System is designed to Screen, Test and Assess an individual’s movement patterns for rehabilitation and injury prevention/performance. Current research has demonstrated that previous injury is the most powerful predictor of future injury. The evidence and new research on the neuromuscular system suggest that motor control changes following injury have long-lasting effects. Changes in motor control lead to compensatory movement patterns that have been linked to injury risk and performance deficits. They are not resolved following typical rehabilitation programs.

The symposium starts with an overview of the entire Functional Movement System as outlined in Gray Cook’s new book Movement. The system enhances the clinician’s understanding and application of the functional movement model for the orthopedic and sports medicine patient. The system seamlessly bridges rehabilitation and injury prevention/performance programs.

The Functional Movement System extends beyond the traditional kinetic chain approach to explore the best current evidence explaining how pain and injury adversely affect motor control. The measurement and subsequent intervention model incorporate the basic tenets of authentic movement from a neuro-developmental perspective. The system is designed to screen, test and assess for dysfunctional movement patterns that assist in injury prediction and prevention, and guide the most efficient corrective strategies.

The speakers are internationally known researchers and developers of the Functional Movement System. The system is composed of three separate tools utilized for movement Screening (Functional Movement Screen), Testing (Y-Balance Test), and Assessment (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) from the functional movement perspective. Dynamic lectures and lab demonstrations offer the participant an engaging learning experience.
